The right-hander was named the Outstanding Pitcher Award winner in the Adams League today. His ERA of 2.28 helped him to a 20-7 record this year. He struck out 279 and walked 44 in 272.1 innings. He has 6 complete games and 4 shutouts. He's 2nd in the Adams League in ERA and 1st in wins! Awards may not be the most important thing for Peter Bird, but Walla Walla's right-hander smiled as he was named the Zotti League Outstanding Pitcher Award winner. Monday 10/14/2007: Outstanding Batter Award winners announced The Adams League Outstanding Batter Award goes to Gregory Mudge this year. He had an extraordinary season! This year Mudge drove in 135 and scored 112 runs while batting .308 with 46 bombs. He's 6th in the Adams League in batting, 1st in homeruns and 1st in RBI! New York 's leftfielder John Redman will never forget this day as well. A great season convinced the voters that he is the worthy Zotti League Outstanding Batter Award winner. Monday 10/14/2007: Ramsey (SAS) and Palacio (RIV) win Outstanding Newcomer Award The 2007 Adams League Outstanding Newcomer Award winner is from Saskatoon this season. Robert Ramsey put together impressive numbers for a rookie en route to win the first major award of his career. Let's hope more will follow for this 30 year old ballplayer. Ramsey has hit 7 bombs this year while batting .370. He adds 22 doubles, along with 68 runs scored. Timothy Palacio was named the Zotti League Outstanding Newcomer Award winner today. River Cities' second baseman put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 23 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! He has hit 11 homeruns while batting .267 this season. His 153 hits and 61 walks add up to a .337 on-base percentage. |
Wednesday 10/2/2007: Ernest Delamora shuts out Michigan on one hit RIVER CITIES - Age doesn't matter. At least River Cities' right-hander Ernest Delamora shares this opinion. The 38 year old pitched a 1-hit shutout against Michigan, recording his 2nd shutout of the season. 'Winning is the most important thing. And I gave my team all the support it needed!' Delamora (16-6) fanned 9 and walked 2, throwing 105 pitches. Chet Edwards provided River Cities with the offense Delamora needed as he finished 2 for 4, homering once, doubling once, scoring twice. River Cities improved its record to 94-66, scoring 3 runs on 8 hits. |
Tuesday 10/1/2007: Delvalle (BRK) and Okane (RIV) win monthly pitcher award It's the 0th time that the Adams League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Brooklyn's pitcher Sabas Delvalle. Saturday 9/28/2007: John Sadao (SEA) will miss 5-6 weeks SEATTLE - Seattle's players were scared when they had to watch John Sadao suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against Houston. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Sadao will probaby miss 5-6 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Fractured Hand which will require surgery. John has gone 137 for 444 (.309) this season, hitting 16 taters and driving in 77 runs. He has scored 70 runs on his own. He's 8th in the Adams League in batting! |
Monday 9/23/2007: Peter Bird quiets Danville bats with shutout DANVILLE - Walla Walla's right-hander Peter Bird is a great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff, blanking Danville on just one hit. It's his 2nd shutout this season, and the 3rd time he has done it in his career. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Bird (20-11) struck out 4 and issued 4 BB, throwing 64 of 113 pitches for strikes. The hitting star for Walla Walla was rightfielder Sol Figueroa, he collected 1 hit in 4 trips to the plate, homering once. Walla Walla scored 4 runs on 7 hits. |
Monday 9/23/2007: Player of the Week honors go to Fay and Hartsell It's the 4th time that the Adams League Player of the Week award goes to Saskatoon's rightfielder Michael Fay. Michael was on fire, hitting .429 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. His season features a batting average of .348 (196 hits in 564 AB), 32 doubles, 8 triples and 22 homeruns. Derrick went 12 for 29 (.414), while hitting 2 HR and collecting 9 RBI. Raglin has hit for a .287 average this season. He has 71 extra base hits along with 280 total bases, resulting in a .509 slugging percentage. He's 7th in the Adams League in RBIs and 9th in homeruns! Wednesday 9/11/2007: Jose Delagarza (RIV) will miss 8-9 weeks RIVER CITIES - River Cities' right-hander Jose Delagarza suffered a severe injury on Wednesday and will be out for at least 8-9 weeks. In the 2nd of the game against Walla Walla he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Strained Tricep Muscle which will require surgery. His ERA of 3.03 helped him to a 11-4 record this year. He struck out 87 and walked 46 in 119 innings. He's 9th in the Zotti League in wins! He's 9th in the Zotti League in saves! |

Sunday 9/1/2007: Hickory has no chance in a PERFECT GAME by Richard Pimental HICKORY - Saskatoon's right-hander Richard Pimental is a really great pitcher. And he once again showed his stuff while making history, blanking Hickory on no hits. The crowd of 23703 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Pimental (19-6) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 8. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' Brian Frison helped Pimental at the plate, he finished 3 for 4, blasting a homerun, scoring three times with 3 RBI. Saskatoon improved its record to 84-48, scoring 9 runs on 15 hits. |
Sunday 9/1/2007: Hickory's Nelligan earns Pitcher of the Month award Hickory's Chad Nelligan had a terrific August, and it earned him the Adams League Pitcher of the month award. He started 7 games in August, going 3-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.54 in 50 innings. Chad fanned 40 hitters. Chad has a record of 9-11 this season, with an ERA of 2.37. In 220 Innings he was able to strike out 202 batters. It's the 2nd time that the Zotti League Pitcher of the Month award goes to River Cities' pitcher Ernest Delamora. Monday 8/26/2007: John Redman collects five hits against Danville DANVILLE - New York 's leftfielder John Redman accomplished a difficult feat in a 9-2 win over Danville, drilling five hits to improve his career batting average to .283! His 1st hit was a RBI double off Roberto Diaz in the 1st inning. Number 2 in the 3rd inning accounted for a double. His 5th hit, a three-run homerun off Renato Mora in the 9th inning, cleared the fence in center field. He had singles in the 4th inning (two RBIs) and in the 7th inning . Tuesday 7/16/2007: River Cities' Vaz severely injured RIVER CITIES - River Cities is without its right-hander Roy Vaz for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Billy Hayton in a game against Danville. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. River Cities wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Vaz had suffered a Pulled Tricep Muscle. Opposing players hit .226 against Roy this season. The best month of June in the Zotti League certainly had River Cities' right-hander Sherman Wheeler, earning him the Pitcher of the Month award. Monday 6/24/2007: Ernest Delamora fires 2-hitter against New York RIVER CITIES - Age doesn't matter. At least River Cities' right-hander Ernest Delamora shares this opinion. The 37 year old pitched a 2-hit shutout against New York , recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'I was able to keep´em off balance. That certainly helped.' Delamora (6-3) struck out 8 and issued 3 BB, throwing 69 of 121 pitches for strikes. River Cities' second baseman Timothy Palacio went 1 for 2, and collecting 2 RBI. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Emmanuel Fernandez in a game against New York . His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. Florida wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Plunk had suffered a Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Tuesday 6/18/2007: Roberto Olivas (SEA) will miss 5-6 weeks SEATTLE - Seattle's right-hander Roberto Olivas suffered a severe injury on Tuesday and will be out for at least 5-6 weeks. In the 1st of the game against Hickory he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. Olivas was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Pulled Tricep Muscle. Roberto has a record of 9-2 this season, with an ERA of 2.87. In 103.1 Innings he was able to strike out 76 batters. Monday 6/17/2007: Walla Walla has no chance in a NO-HITTER by Frank Osborne WALLA WALLA - With his best stuff going, Danville's Frank Osborne overmatched the opposing hitters all day long. Walla Walla had no chance, getting NO hits against the right-hander. Osborne (6-7) fanned 9 and walked 6, throwing 122 pitches. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him. Wednesday 6/12/2007: Roy Vaz shuts out Danville on 2 hits DANVILLE - Danville's hitters were dominated by River Cities' Roy Vaz. He gave up just 2 hits in recording his 1st shutout of the season. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Vaz (6-3) fanned 8 and walked 3, throwing 112 pitches. River Cities' catcher Steven Slezak went 2 for 4, hitting a double, with 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Vaz. River Cities improved its record to 38-25, scoring 4 runs on 10 hits. |
Monday 6/10/2007: Hickory's Fout wins Player of the Week award Hickory's third baseman Robert Fout had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the Adams League Player of the Week. New York 's centerfielder Juan David will miss about 5 weeks after being hit by Casey Plunk in the 2nd inning of the game between New York After being taken to a local hospital, David was examined by specialists. Saturday 6/1/2007: Jonathan Starner quiets Danville bats with shutout DANVILLE - Great days are rare. But not for River Cities' right-hander Jonathan Starner. Danville found out the hard way that he is among the leagues top pitchers, getting just one hit. It's his 1st shutout this season, and the 4th time he has done it in his career. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Starner (4-3) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 7. Gary Giles provided River Cities with the offense Starner needed as he finished 1 for 5, hitting a homerun, with 2 RBI. The final score of the game was 3-0. |
Saturday 6/1/2007: Seattle's Olivas earns Pitcher of the Month award It's the 3rd time that the Adams League Pitcher of the Month award goes to Seattle's pitcher Roberto Olivas. He had an ERA of just 1.53 in 47 innings of work in which he struck out 30 hitters. His record in May is 4-1. This season Olivas compiled an ERA of 2.09, going 7-2 in 13 starts. He fanned 61 while giving up 68 hits in 86 innings. He's 2nd in the Adams League in ERA and 2nd in wins! Roy Vaz couldn't have pitched much better than he did in May, and the Zotti League thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. In the 1st of the game against Florida he experienced pain in his throwing arm and had to leave the game. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Inflamed Rotator Cuff Muscle. Surgery will be performed next week. His ERA of 2.50 helped him to a 8-2 record this year. He struck out 57 and walked 18 in 68.1 innings. He's 4th in the Zotti League in ERA and 1st in wins! |
Monday 5/20/2007: Saskatoon's Barrera wins Player of the Week award It's the 1st time that the Adams League Player of the Week award goes to Saskatoon's catcher Carlos Barrera. He had an on base percentage of .476 and hit .450, while driving in 8 runs. Barrera has walked 9 times this year and posts a .439 OBP. While batting .405, 60 for 148, he has driven in 22 runs. Sunday 4/28/2007: George Rawlins hits for the cycle against Michigan MICHIGAN - Walla Walla's centerfielder George Rawlins once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Michigan's pitching staff with a 4 hit performance on Sunday. In the 5th inning he belted a double off James Arenas. A 453 foot drive to left field marked his 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Amos Maloy in the 7th inning. A single in the 9th off Amos Maloy accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a three-run triple off Amos Maloy in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! George did drive in 4 while scoring 5 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 30 hits in 87 at bats, resulting in a .345 batting average. 6 players in league history have so far hit for the cycle, including George. On 4/29/2006, Alexander Fulp was the last player to hit for the cycle. |

Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.'
